Hobart may be small, but it truly delivers when it comes to exceptional vegan dining. During our culinary adventures around the city, we discovered a variety of fantastic spots, from fine dining to cozy cafes and bustling markets. Here are some of our favourite discoveries in Hobart.
Faro at MONA Dining at Faro was a unique experience for us. The sleek, modern setting inside MONA (Museum of Old and New Art) perfectly complements the creative menu. Although not exclusively vegan, Faro offers a dedicated vegan menu, using Tasmania’s freshest seasonal produce. We paired our meal with a signature cocktail while soaking in the stunning river views and quirky art surrounding us—truly a feast for the senses!
Picnic Cafe Our visit to Picnic Cafe was a delight! This cozy spot has a relaxed atmosphere and a menu full of delicious vegan dishes. We enjoyed a leisurely brunch of pancakes and waffles while soaking up the friendly vibe. Before leaving we stocked up on treats from their big range of vegan cakes.
Old Wharf Restaurant Set right on the waterfront at MACq 01 Hotel, Old Wharf Restaurant offered us a refined dining experience that highlighted Tasmanian ingredients. We were pleased to find excellent plant-based options, and the team went above and beyond to cater to our needs. The relaxed yet elegant atmosphere, combined with a beautiful view, made for a lovely meal.
Salamanca Markets No trip to Hobart would be complete without a visit to Salamanca Market on Saturday mornings. The vibrant atmosphere was buzzing with locals and tourists alike, and we enjoyed exploring the many food stalls. Vegan options were plentiful, and we couldn’t resist sampling hot pastries and vegie fajitas—each bite was a delight!
Maria If you’re looking for something truly special, Maria is a must-visit. The intimate setting and beautiful view created a memorable dining experience. We indulged in a set-menu degustation that was fully tailored for us as vegan diners. Each dish was beautifully plated and packed with flavour, showcasing the best of what the region has to offer.
The Little Poet Tucked away in Battery Point, The Little Poet is a charming café where we found a peaceful vibe and thoughtful plant-based options. We enjoyed a wholesome breakfast here, complete with quality coffee and sweet treats. Everything felt homemade with love, making it the perfect spot to unwind.
The Mayfair Our experience at The Mayfair was a fun dive into traditional Australian pub culture with a vegan twist. This classic hotel features a full vegan pub food menu, offering hearty options like burgers and classic pub "schnitties". We enjoyed the relaxed, casual atmosphere, and there was even a local musician playing in the background. If you're in the mood for comforting, satisfying vegan food in a friendly setting, The Mayfair is a great choice.
